Will I be met at the airport and what happens if I am delayed?

Africa Interns will be met at the airport my a member of staff at the arrivals hall just outside the airport. Even if your plane is delayed (no matter what time)! Please keep an eye out for a sign with your name on it.

Please make sure you send us your travel details to ensure we know when to pick you up.

The vast majority of international flights arrive late in the evening. This is not a problem for us and we are well used to picking people up at 11pm.

We urge interns to arrive on a weekday as weekend pick-ups will be surcharged. Weekend airport pick-ups will be charged at £15. Please email us to request this service. Payment can be made in-country.

What will my first day look like?

What your first day will look like really depends on what time you arrive and how you feel. Interns are first taken to our Accra accommodation. Arrivals during the day usually want to take it easy and catch up on some sleep. A member of staff will take you around whenever you like to get some shopping in, change your money, sort a phone out, help you get your bearings and anything else you may need. Should you be interning outside Accra you will either be taken that day or the following day to your placement.

For interns arriving in the evening, you will be picked up and taken to our Accra accommodation where you can catch up on some sleep. The following day a member of staff will take you around whenever you like to get some shopping in, change your money, sort a phone out, help you get your bearings and anything else you may need. Should you be interning outside Accra you will either be taken that day or the following day to your placement.

Upon arrival at our Accra accommodation you will get the opportunity to meet our volunteers in Accra and some of our staff. Our volunteers & interns do take care of each other. Its not uncommon for an intern arriving at 11pm to be taken out on the town, to only get to bed at 4am after a night of partying.. Don't worry, if that happens you can have a lie in!

Who will be in-country to support me?

We will email you before your arrival to let you know who will be your coordinator in-country. Our main aim is to have happy interns, as happy interns will be of most use to the organisation they are working for. You will not only be supported by your dedicated coordinator, but by all of our staff members, from our cleaners to our office staff. We will all be here to help and support you during your placement.

I arrive on a weekend – will you be there to help me?

Yes we will, but please be aware that only some shops are open on Sundays so how much we can help you is limited to what is open. Please also be aware that weekend pick-ups are subject to a £15 surcharge.
