Income Generation Project

The organisation was established in 2004 with the aim of assisting women in developing countries to produce and market unique products in order to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families. They help to identify both potential products and their markets, building upon local skills and traditional crafts.

Profits generated from the sale of it's merchandise is used for community development programs. Programs they plan to initiate and/or continue to support including low-interest business loans for women, literacy classes, library materials, and computer training for women, children and at-risk youth.

The Intern

Dried fruit & vegetable initiative - agricultural researcher/engineer. They are looking for interns to research the feasibility of different drying techniques, from solar drying to gas drying. The potential intern would have to submit a design plan before he or she would be accepted for this programme.
This placement is a great opportunity as a research project for students specialising in agribusiness and/or development.

They are working with the Ningo communities to initiate a fruit and vegetable drying program. Tomatoes, peppers and mangos grow abundantly in the area. The women have begun planting tomatoes and peppers on the land at the center, where the organisation will be managing community cooperative production of a variety of food products for local and export sales.

Much produce is lost from spoilage in the hot sun while on its way to market, and vital income lost too. Drying will benefit growers and market women, and create a new product not widely available on the local market or exported from Ghana.
